Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want

SDG 16

About the Session

Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want is a strategic blueprint for social and economic transformation on the continent. It relies on the past and existing continental growth and sustainability initiatives and aims to accelerate their implementation. It is a strategic framework aimed at achieving the goal of inclusive and sustainable development, concrete manifestation of the pan-African aspiration for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued by pan-Africanism and African renaissance.

The Agenda 2063 resulted from realizing by African leaders that the African agenda needed to be refocused from the fight against apartheid and political independence for the continent, which was the focus of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the forerunner of the African Union. The Agenda 2063 reflects not only Africa’s aspirations for the future, but also identifies the key pilot programmes which can promote Africa’s economic growth and development and lead to a rapid transformation of the continent.
