Equal Partnership with Africa as a Guarantee of a Future Just World Order

SDG 17

About the Session

An equal partnership with Africa recognizes the intrinsic value and potential of the African continent and its people. Historically, colonial powers exploited and marginalized Africa, which resulted in economic underdevelopment, political instability, and social inequality. Promoting equal partnership can result in an opportunity to start reversing these trends and building a more just and sustainable global community.

Equal partnership implies treating African countries as equal partners in trade, diplomacy and development. This means engaging African leaders and communities in decision-making processes which affect them and respecting their autonomy and sovereignty. It also means recognizing the contribution of African cultures and traditions to the world’s collective heritage.

One of the ways for nations to get to know each other better is through fashion. It is one of the tools for asserting the importance of one's national culture and enriching it through creative borrowing from others. African fashion is now becoming the subject of close attention of designers from various countries, including Russia. Co-operation in fashion also entails co-operation in production, ecology and science.
